Advocacy for Social Justice

General Description

Many of the organizations where we work, fight for the ideals of equality and dignity for all, creating and disseminating tools for their actions. These organizations do not have large monetary or technical resources, but they do have plenty of creativity that allows them to express themselves in the most surprising ways.

Tasks

The planning of events to show daily work, communicating of their rights, and the organization and communication of social claims are some of the tasks which the volunteer may be asked to carry out.

At the same time, you will learn new ways of communicating related to our traditions and culture, poverty and the endless struggle to improve the quality of life.

Assembling and disseminating written pieces for the media will be another task that may help to improve the efficiency of these actions.

Volunteers will be asked to collaborate in the editing of videos, presentations and outreach, attend meetings and demonstrations, and assist in organization.

Key Information & Benefits

This is the core area for every social organization in Argentina and Latin America. Today, communication and action are the best tools to achieve a real and profound social change. In order to understand and work beneficially, you will need patience in understanding the political and social atmosphere of Argentina. In this way, you will also understand the actions of the community center and what they want to express.

Transportation

From central Buenos Aires there are several colectivos that will drop you just a few steps away from the center. Remember that you will need coins to travel on the buses in Buenos Aires - so bring enough for your return journey too!

Local Support

Berta is the Voluntario Global coordinator for the programs at La Boca. As she is actually based at the center, help and advice will always be on hand, should you require it. As well as being a popular option amongst fellow volunteers, this project offers a great support network, given the size and diversity of the organization.

We keep low donations. 80% percent of the fee paid by volunteers is invested for the sustainability of our project and cost of running our cooperative organization. 20% administrative costs.
